Hi everyone, calling from sunny Perth, but this blog is about the stay in Singapore
We arrived into hot and steamy Singapore at 7.30pm and was whisked to our hotel in Clarke Quay. My hair immediately took on a 1970's appearance 'The Frizz' and stayed that way until we left.
The hotel was in a good spot, a newly developed area along the Singapore river, reminded me a bit of docklands with huge apartment developments with cafes and restaurants along the bottom. Clarke Quay itself took on a Disney appearance at night, full of bars and restaurants and very noisy. The whole place covered in Christmas decorations which was slightly weird at 85 degrees.
We spent the two days walking through China Town, through the high rise business district and the colonial areas and ended up with blisters everywhere. Martin, took your suggestion and spent some time in Fort Canning Park, which was fascinating and where I got bitten by giant mozzies- Death to Mozzies.
Singapore seems to be about shopping- every precinct gave numerous shopping opportunites which we didn't take advantage of - Rod's went glazed within 10 seconds and he had to be guided out and sat down for a while. But underneath everyone was a food court, where you could get cheap delicious food of every asian type. We ate in these most of the time, all for about $5 for dinner.
On the last day we went to the Garden by the Bay, a huge place with two huga biospheres and outside a forest of electronic trees. The whole place was amazing, reminded me of something out of Avatar. I will endeavour to load some pictures. Wanted to go back at night, when they are all lit up, but we ran out of time.
The last afternoon was spent by the pool as we were completely knackered, but with the heat and blistersand walking for miles -we ran out of steam. Very bizarre sitting by a pool in 80 degrees with Hark the Herald Angels being sang over the music system.
That's it from Singapore - had a brilliant time but looking forward to getting away from the humidity and Australia.
