Now it was time to pick up the hire car and try and find our way out of the city. We collected the car from Hertz in down town. The guy gave us clear and precise instructions to get out to the airport road, which we obviously forgot and took a wrong turn! It took us a little while but we persevered, Rod was a hero and eventually we were heading in the right direction and Rod had stopped putting on the windscreen wipers when trying to indicate.
We trundled through the suburbs which went on forever, and suddenly we were out of Sydney and on the Hume Highway. At one point we wondered if we were on a closed road, as didn't see a car for ages.
The scenery changed colour to corn and gold, and then to forest. We had all day to drive down to Canberra as Kate was working till 5.30 so we had plenty of time to come off the motorway and have a look around. The first stop was Fitzroy Falls. Although there wasn't much falls at this time of year, it was great to have a walk through the forest and see some scenery.
We the continued through some lovely small towns Mittagong, Bowral and Moss Vale before coming back on to the highway, this time the Federal and into Canberra.
I would like to mention that it was quite cold here, only 20 degrees and it did rain a little, or was that the sprays from the waterfall!
Kate was waiting with a cold white wine for us..... aaaah what more could we ask for ... well
