Gold Mine Country

Tuesday 7th January

We were warned that it could be 41 today - and it proved to be the case.  So we we had the day in the air conditioned car - or at least when we jumped back in.

We started off at the Woodshed Falls, decided not to do the 1.5km trek round trip, but the falls were worth a walk to.

I so wanted to go downand put my feet into it
Then we drove on to Rutherglen and Chiltern, two further mining towns.  They were like being in the back of beyond.  Oh yes, we were in the middle of nowhere... brilliant

No doubt to stop pissed cyclists wobbling home
This is a wine area famous for its fortified wine and port, and we visited a couple of vineyards.  Guess who got to be designated driver?

I love it! straight to the point
We then drove back to Beechworth, where Janette said,' shall we do the Gorge Drive' stupid! it's only 5km.  What it didn't say that it was a 5km vertical drive where the road got narrower with a 150ft drop at the side.  Janette was very brave.... but  we did it and was really worth the trip.

Wanted to have a swim in this

We survived this intrepid journey, and it was back to the hut for beer!

It was during out visit to Rutherglen that Rod discovered Parker Pies, a famous pie shop - he then endeavoured to start at the beginning of the menu and work his way through it.  No doubt we will be having some further visits along the way.
